Can trust be a leadership strategy?
After all my time in corporate, I recently had my first real run-in with a micromanager in a volunteer role.
It’s something I’ve been hearing about from clients for years, especially women navigating negligent or overly opinionated managers who don’t trust them to do their best work… or any work at all.
Here’s what I’ve heard and now what I know firsthand:
Even the most enthusiastic, creative people will start to shrink when every idea gets policed, decisions are second-guessed, or tension quietly hangs in the air.
Because micromanagement doesn’t just waste time.
It drains purpose.
It erodes morale.
It silences the people who want to contribute the most.
That little plot twist gave me some big leadership reminders about trust… and sparked a surprisingly rich wave of sharing from across LinkedIn.
Have you ever experienced a helicopter manager? How did it show up in your work, and how did you handle it?

If you’re thinking about making a career shift, whether due to a layoff or an intentional pivot, it doesn’t mean starting over.
What are you most thankful for this year? For me, it’s long-term friendships and family who remind me of what’s most important.
Would you ever turn down a promotion for the sake of balance or purpose?
Many leaders are saying yes, and it’s reshaping the modern workplace.
👈🏽 I broke down this shift (and my own take) and would love to hear your perspective!
