How to Land the Interview

Let’s stop applying to all the jobs and start applying to the ones that actually fit best. 👀

Because in this market, volume alone isn’t the strategy people think it is.

The goal isn’t to send out 7,859 applications a week and hope for the best. It’s to position yourself well enough to actually land the interview.

Here are five ways to do exactly that.

  • Let's be honest, landing an interview in this market can feel impossible. You hit apply, you send your résumé off into the void, and then you hear nothing. No updates, no response,  just crickets.

And you're not alone. Google searches for "How do I land a job interview?" have gone up 600% recently.

If you're feeling the pressure, it's not just you, it is this market.

With hundreds of applications pouring into every opening, applying by itself just doesn't cut it anymore. And I've said it once, I'll say it again, you need a strategy.

Here are five ways to stand out and actually get that interview.

    1. First, go niche.  Skip the huge job boards like LinkedIn and Indeed, and head to industry specific ones instead. A smaller applicant pool means  better odds of you being seen.

    2. Tailor every résumé.  Don't just use the same résumé over and over again. Use AI to make sure that you're targeting the keywords on your résumé specifically to the job description and what is listed there.

    3. Lead with confidence.  State your salary expectations early. The right companies will respect your transparency and your time.

    4. Make it human.  Message the hiring manager, or better yet, somebody on the team directly. A few sentences on why you would be a great fit and how you could solve the problem they're looking to be addressed will get you from invisible to memorable.

    5. And finally,   automate wisely.  Use autofill extensions to fill out applications quickly so that you can save time for what actually matters, networking and skill building.

It's true, this job market may be tough, but you've got to remember, a good strategy will beat luck every time. You don't need to apply everywhere. You just need to apply smarter.
