What’s Going On in the Job Market Right Now?!
Today, we're answering the question everyone seems to be asking:
What in the actual job market is going on right now? 🫠
Because if your search feels harder than it "should" feel, that's not just in your head.
The market has changed. The rules have changed. And the strategies that worked a few years ago aren't getting the same results today.
So let's talk about what's really happening—and what the people getting interviews and offers are doing differently.👇🏽

I'm gonna take a little bit of a detour today on my usual content and focus on answering a question I'm hearing all of the time:
"Nicole, what exactly is happening in the job market right now?"
While it may seem like it is, the job market isn't actually broken, it's just a little bit stuck. Over the past year, we have seen major layoffs from Meta and Intuit and Cisco, but overall, most organizations aren't doing major layoffs. At the same time, their hiring pace is not what it used to be.
From that, what you get is this weird in-between space where hiring is slower, decision-making is a little more cautious, and competition is tight.
On top of that, more people are staying put. Over 65% of professionals say they are not making any job moves this year. Which means fewer openings as people hold on to their roles.
Add to it the shift that's happening underneath it all: hiring managers are not necessarily focusing on job titles. They're really looking for skills and business impact.
The people who are getting traction right now aren't necessarily applying more. They're positioning themselves differently. They're getting clear on their value, they're making it visible, and they're not relying on applications alone. So, if you've been in your head about this?
Take a breath. You are not behind. You're just operating in a different market than you were just a few years ago.
Once you understand that, you can start playing this game a whole lot smarter.
