The Infamous September Surge

IT’S SEPTEMBER! JOBS FOR EVERYONE!

okokok… I may be overstating the impact of the annual September Surge in hiring but, LinkedIn Fam, the time is RIPE for making a move right meow.

Now, an important caveat: this year’s September Surge isn’t necessarily looking like the hiring boom we’ve seen in stronger markets.

😬

I know. This is truly a bummer. You don’t have to tell me twice.

Hiring is still uneven. What’s happening in healthcare may look completely different from what’s happening in tech or finance. Your function, industry, geography, and seniority all matter.

So no, September 1 did not arrive and magically unlock 47,000 jobs for everyone.

BUT I am seeing the seasonal shift happen in real time.

Several of my clients have had recruiters who disappeared earlier in the year suddenly come back to life.

Out of the blue: “Hey! Wanted to reconnect…”

Well, hello there. Nice of you to join us again. 😂

And it makes sense.

Summer vacations are over. Kids are solidly back in school. Decision-makers are back at their desks. Teams have a much clearer picture of what needs to get done before year-end, and there’s a limited window to get hiring moving before holidays, year-end planning, and budget constraints start slowing things down again.

So while I wouldn’t assume the September Surge means opportunities are suddenly everywhere, I would absolutely treat this as a time to be on your game.

Apply. Network. Follow up. Reconnect with that recruiter. Make sure your résumé and LinkedIn are ready when the right role pops up.

This is not the season to sit on the sidelines waiting for January.
