Keeping Sane with a Simple Weekday Schedule

If there’s one thing I know about staying sane during a job search, it’s this: you need a strategy.

And if your Google Calendar looks like a game of Tetris… welllll, that’s not it.

Your week should work for you, not against you.

Here’s how to stay focused, creative, and sane during those long days of searching.

  • Feeling drained in your job hunt? Endless applications, ghosting recruiters, and zero results would leave anyone feeling pretty depleted.

    But there is a way that you can protect your energy and still make progress, and that is with a simple job search weekly schedule.

    Career coach Christian Lovell recommends breaking down the big goal of finding a job into small daily tasks, and I could not agree more.

    Here's an example week:

    • Monday. Spend your time researching  roles and companies so that you are applying smarter, not just faster.

    • On Tuesday, update your résumé  and customize it for every application because yes, keywords do matter.

    • Wednesday, apply like  your career depends on it, and check every detail. It's those no-brainer ones that we often miss.

    • Thursday, network.  Reach out to friends and former colleagues, attend an event, or just be active right here on LinkedIn.

    • Friday, follow up on applications  and messages to make sure that you are showing initiative and standing out.

    • Saturday, take a day for yourself  and build some skills. Attend a workshop or try something new. 

    • And Sunday, rest, reflect, recharge,  so you do not burn out.

    Remember, monthly tasks like interview prep or checking in on your progress overall will keep you sharp and motivated.
